What a Month!

I do find it hard to keep up with writing these blogs, mainly because I keep forgetting to do them haha.

So, what's been happening at the club since I last updated our blog. On the 14th October, we headed to Upholland & went to St Teresa Church, for some long exposure photography & light painting. To be honest, the church wasn't lit up like it use to be, so was a little disappointing, but our members still carried on & managed to get some wonderful shot of the church. Some of our members brought along some light toys, so members could place their cameras on tripods & capture some strange, weird & wonderful images.

A week later, we decided to do something for remembrance day & bring in a model, dressed in WW1 military clothing. We set up the studio & got our model, Ste into position & in came the members one at a time, spending 4 minutes each with him. Ste was brilliant, positioning himself into all the iconic poses you may have seen online, when remembrance day comes round or when searching on Google. The members loved this night & produced some wonderful images & can't wait for Ste to return.

4th of November was another painting with light, but this time the members decided to head to Liverpool, for the River of Light Festival it had on. We had a good turn out & the festival was brilliant. We started at the Liver building, made our way around around the Albert Dock & continued to follow the light trail. For a free event in Liverpool, it was really good.

The following week, it was all about the members images. We often hold critique nights, so we can help members improve. Our members do produce some wonderful images & have a good concept of camera skills, the biggest area they need help in, I'd say is in the editing.

In between these events, our committee picked what they deemed to be the best change at the L&CPU's Knockout Competition. We finally got our results back & at first glace, we were disappointed, but after reading the results through, we didn't do too bad. Out of 42 entries, we came in joint 28th. For a small club, with a lot newcomers & novice members, we felt this was a good result. There are other competitions coming up & we look forward trying to better ourselves.

After receiving our results from the Knockout & Novice Cup Competitions, we decided to look at some past entries from the 2018 Novice Cup. These entries included images that received scores of 13 & over out of 15 & images that received a Highly Commended & Commended award. We only managed to view the open category & didn't even manage to finish that. We saw some outstanding images, some that left us puzzled, others that left us confused (which we're not saying is a bad thing) & some images that we couldn't understand why they scored so high. But that's judging & art I guess & as we know, art is very subjective. So, I guess some judges are just very arty?
