I've not posted anything for a while, as it's hard to keep up with this blog at times. Through August, the club has held a vary of events. Our first event was back on the 5th August, which was a Novice Night. These nights are designed to help many new comers to photography, get a better understanding of their camera's. We show you how Auto isn't always best, but working in Aperture or Shutter Priority, is a great step to working in full manual. We explained how the exposure triangle & how changing just one of the 3 points (Aperture, Shutter Speed or ISO), will require you to alter one of the others, to keep the exposure at 0 (depending on the light available). All sounds like a minefield, but once you get an understanding of it, it all comes so easy. We will be holding another one of these nights in the future, as we often have members who want a refresher or new members join us.
Our next event was a week later on 12th August, walking around Yarrow Park in Chorley. For those who've never been, it's a wonderful park for birds & other wildlife. Swans, ducks, kingfishers, herons are the water birds, then we have your garden/woodland birds, like nuthatch's, woodpeckers, finches, tits, dippers & more. If your lucky & you know where to look (wink wink), you can spot a family of voles that often pop their head out for some birdfeed people down for them. It's a great place for wildlife like I said, but it's such a lovely walk round too. With a large pond, river & waterfall, which depending on the time of the year, you can see trout jumping up the waterfall steps to spawn.
On the 19th August we headed to Southport Marina, meeting up at the front of Fun Land. From there, we took a slow walk around the marina, photographing the swans, ducks & paddle boarders, who were all enjoying the water. Some members took a great interest in the reflections in the water, capturing the icon Southport Marina Bridge. One member even found a reflection in a puddle, which was a brilliant, as everyone else walked past it. Once we past the marina, we headed down the pier to capture the sunset or at least the last of the light & managed to get some moody dark images of the pier. Over all a great night.
Our last event in August was a Critique Night. Our members have a chance to enter a competition through the L&CPU called the Novice Cup. We decided to critique the images from the members who have decided to enter. These night are really good, as it gives constructive feedback & helps members improve their images, either with edits or through their eye next time they're out. Composition is everything & the judges are looking for an images that's not busy & leaves you eyes wondering all over the place, but leads you into the images & settles on your subject.
Few images from Yarrow Park & Southport.
