AGM & the Future

Writer: Beacon Photographic ClubBeacon Photographic Club

The club has taken a big hit this year, with members leaving the club for personal reasons. It's always a pleasure to have members within the club and it's sad when they make the decision to leave, and of course, our door is always open for their return.

It does mean that the club will now be concentrating on new membership for the club and advertising what we do and what we're all about. This will be done via the Crawford Fayre and the Annual Green Fayre held at the Beacon Country Park, which both events are held in July. The dates will be and information will be posted in to our "News" page.

This year's AGM was held on Thursday 27th May, which saw a total of 13 members of the 23 we currently had up to the AGM. As mentioned above, with members leaving the club, it meant that the committee was one of the first things to be affected, so that was top of the agenda. It took some time, but we ended up getting the committee we needed, to keep the club running, for at least another 12 months. Then it was all down to business and the AGM was eventually finished, with no hick-ups.

The same can't be said about creating the events list though, this was like pulling teeth at times hahaha. Here at Beacon Photographic Club, we've always kept it the same and not allowed the committee to tell members what they are going to be doing and when for the next 12 months. The club belongs to the members, so it's up to them where and what we do. The members are given the chance to tell us what they want to do, where they want to go and what they want to learn. We find this the fairest way, as all members get to do something they want, from light painting to learning Photoshop or wildlife to studio. The one thing we have decided upon this time, was to close for Christmas earlier than normal. Where we normal finish the week before Christmas and return the first Thursday in January, our last event this year will be the last Thursday in November, a macro night at the Artz Centre. Our members will meet up for some Christmas drinks and photography talk in the December, but we're finishing early to give all members a chance to spend more time with their families.

So, what does the future hold for Beacon Photographic Club? Well as you may know, we like to help other groups within the town and this will still be continuing. We recently photographed the Dog Show at the Beacon Country Park and we often help out at the Artz Centre, photographing their events. There are other events coming up that we'll covering. To encourage new membership to the club, we are looking to have an article printed in the local magazine "About Town", and we'll be having a stall at this years Green Fayre at the Beacon Country Park and the Crawford Village Fete. We'll be hoping that this brings in new fresh photographers for the club, so the club can grow in numbers and strength and continue year and year.
